In this project I used the risograph duplicator technology to create a seamless replicating pattern. I was a little overzealous with this one since seamless patterns can sometimes seem simplistic when using the Illustrator pattern tool. To avoid this, my ambition lead me to incorporate multiple patterns and incorporating gradients within them to make the composition more interesting and intricate. The only shortfall was the complexity of my design did not mesh very well with the inaccuracy of the risograph printer. I still came out pretty well, but I how to use this as a learning experience for future projects using this unique tool!
An illustration of the “Archangel” character created by an anonymous writer under the pen name 'Joseph Steward’ on the blog Eccentrically Bored. Eccentrically Bored was part of the Fear Mythos, a small online writing community/fandom the centered around monstrous entities called ‘fears’ that used humans as game pieces in a sort of ancient struggle for power. The Archangel itself represents the fear of religious dogma and death. As such, my representation of the character is related to both religious symbolism and wanton militaristic violence. I incorporated these character elements into my piece in the form of references to Christian art motifs, specifically the stigmata and halo, and symbols of American military violence, such as the atomic bomb and guns.
This was part of a project where I created a pin design for the risograph printer. I created a loose interpretation of a ‘biblically accurate’ angel with text that says, ‘I killed God, it was worth it.’ In some biblical interpretations, angels are beyond the human boundaries and roles of sex and gender, which is an idea that I personally relate to. This emblem is representative of my complex relationship my Christian faith, and my gender identity. I also really care about the public domain and creative commons asaa graphic design and fan of old media. I incorporated this into my design by using a few public domain images. The teeth, however, are under a creative commons license, and were photographed by Marco d’Itri under CC BY-SA 2.0
The risograph printer really made this design pop in my opinion. However, it was my first time seriously using the machine for a project. For some reason, the registration was particularly chaotic for this design and I only got a few good versions. Luckily, even the more ‘off’ registrations still look pretty cool.
Hey! I am a junior graphic desingn student with a liberal arts minor. I am learning to do front end web developemnt code for this website. My heavy course load means I'm almost constanly getting swapmped with schoolwork. However, I will not let that stop me from getting this website off the ground! I plan on implementing a few changes in the future, mainly backlogging and upadating my projects.
This website is still underdevelopment, but feel free to look around. If you find any issues with any of the web pages, please send an email to my personal adress with the subject 'Website Bug', the page name, and a description of the problem.
